Batleys to celebrate 50th anniversary
      Clyde and Mary Louise Batley of Miller's Ferry, formerly of Leroy, will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Dec. 9, 2-4 p.m. at the Kimbell House in Jackson. The couple was married Dec. 20, 1957 at the First Baptist Church of Chatom by the Rev. Mack Jones Sr.

      Alyssa Kaylen Smith Mr. and Mrs. Brian Smith (nee Marisa Brooks) of Hobson announce the birth of daughter, Alyssa Kaylen, Nov. 20, 2007, 5:38 p.m. at Mobile Infirmary. She weighed 7 lbs., 6 oz. and was 20 inches long. Grandparents are Linda and Bobby Brooks and Patricia and Mike Smith, all of Jackson.

Project Lifesaver assists people with Alzheimer's, related disorders
      Several weeks ago Betty Counselman of Jackson brought to my attention a program that assists people who have Alzheimer's, autism or down syndrome. The program "Project Lifesaver", a nonprofit organization, has become internationally recognized as an aggressive and proven program that saves lives.

HGTV seeks area homes for upcoming series
      "If Walls Could Talk" the weekly series, Sundays on HGTV, is coming to the Gulf Coast (anywhere within a 2- hour radius of Mobile) to film homes with intriguing pasts and unusual stories. Now in production in its ninth season, the series kicks off with new homeowners who make surprising historical discoveries about their homes as they explore and restore them.

Lil' Britches receives awards
     The Lil' Britches, a branch of the Washington County Riders Association for beginning riders, recently received their awards for the 2007 season. The riders meet February through October on a monthly basis and accumulate points toward receiving a belt buckle at the end of the season. They ride in barrel and pole patterns. Those interested in joining the nonprofit organization may call Christy or Chad Beech at 247-2365. Above in front (L-R) are Destiny Chafin and Abigail Beech; back (L-R) are Luke Beech, Cody Willcutt, Kaleigh Younge, Autumn Younge and Morgan Gunter.       November 11, 2007 was the 89th anniversary that celebrated the official end of the "Great War." It was to have been the war to end all wars. However, history has proven that to have been only wishful thinking by a naive world The "Great War", of course was WWI, which ended with the signing of the armistice on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.
