Bailey playing for UA soccer team
      Maggie Bailey, granddaughter of Dot and Carl Atchison of Salitpa, will suit up for the University of Alabama women's soccer team this season. Bailey, a 2007 graduate of the Altamont School in Birmingham, is a UA Presidential Scholar and will play for Coach Don Staley as a defender after surviving threea days in the recent 100-degree plus heat wave.

      Jackson Academy fell to Wilcox Academy 40-13 Friday night in Jackson. The Eagles had a huge night from senior David Hughston who had 17 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown, tallied 11- tackles on defense and returned a kick-off 75 yards for another touchdown.

Nettles picks up first win, hands Boykin first loss

      Washington County knocked off McIntosh 34-14 in front of a huge crowd Friday night in McIntosh. The game was a lot closer in the second half than the scoreboard shows. The Bulldogs started out the game on fire as Jarvis Abston had a 4-yard touchdown run and Drake Warr scrambled in from 8 yards out to give the Dawgs a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Bulldogs earn 'sweet' victory over THS

      For the first time in 10 years and just the second since 1984 the Sweet Water High School Bulldogs walked off the gridiron winners on the scoreboard against their arch-rival Thomasville High School. The Bulldogs made the most of seven Thomasville turnovers to win 27-13 on a rainy night last Thursday at Nolan Atkins Stadium-Victory Field.

Bears baseball team gets championship rings
     The Leroy Bears 2007 baseball team was presented with their state championship rings before the "Battle of the Tombigbee" Thursday night. The Bears finished up 31-7 to claim the 2A title. Harold Harwell (above) was presented with a championship ring and declared the Bears number one fan.
