Jackson High School had a scrimmage at Legion Field Friday night. The coaches stacked the first team offense against the first team defense.

"We got a lot out of it. We ran ones vs ones and had competition. We saw some good things out there. We came back and watched some film and still have some things to work on. We will work on some of these things this week in practice," Coach John Blackmon said.

The Aggies were extremely impressive on offense with running backs Andrew Ezell and Laprintess Morris having big days. The fullbacks and offensive line were another highlight of the game.

"The running backs were the highlight of the game. We have to work on our passing but the running backs look to be the strength of our team," Blackmon said.

Blackmon said his team needs to work on finding its identity. New quarterback Broderick Washington had a pretty good night running the offense.

"He needs to improve on his passing but overall he did a good job leading the team. He is getting better," he said.

Fullbacks Tony Ivory and Isaiah Boykin also had big nights with both players having big runs and blocks.

With the experienced offensive line, two good halfbacks and two outstanding fullbacks, the Aggies will be a force to stop this year running the ball.

"The offensive line blocked people. I thought we didn't play well on defense but our offensive line did a good job putting bodies on bodies. I thought they looked the best they have looked this fall," Blackmon said.

"Our fullbacks also looked really good. Isaiah (Boykin) stepped up today and so did Tony (Ivory)."

Although the Aggies lost their top receiver Demarquis Besteda to graduation, his little brother Cory (Besteda) is showing he has the potential to be something special.

Besteda made several impressive leaping catches and will be a force to be reckoned with this fall.

"Cory did well catching the football. He has to improve his blocking. Right now that is keeping him from being a complete player. He is an outstanding receiver," Blackmon said.

The Aggies will take the field Friday night against Gulf Shores in a preseason jamboree before kicking off the season next Thursday at Leroy in the "Battle of the Tombigbee."
