Special words about reading and White Smith Memorial Library
      Charlene Siegel, a resident of Belleville, Ill., has frequented White Smith Library many times this summer while visiting with her parents who reside in Jackson. Siegel who taught public school for 38 years and understands the value of a library, said that she was very impressed with Jackson's library and its atmosphere.

JA graduate Matt Barnes gets scholarships, awards
      Matt Barnes, a recent graduate of Jackson Academy, has been awarded several scholarships and awards. He was awarded a full-paid tuition to Jones College in Ellisville, Miss., The Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship, the Wayne Lathan Scholarship and a leadership scholarship to the University of West Alabama. He was also a Wendy Heiman nominee.

Forest Owners' Association donates book to T'ville library
      The Thomasville Public Library is the recipient of the book: Owning and Managing Forests by Thom J. McEvoy. The book was donated by the Alabama Forest Owners' Association Educational Fund through a grant from the Alabama Forests Forever Foundation in an attempt to provide sound forest management information to current and future landowners in Clarke County.

JHS registration announced
      Registration will be held at Jackson High School on Thursday, Aug. 2 and Friday, Aug. 3. Seniors and juniors may pick up their schedules on Aug. 2 between 9 a.m. and 12 noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

New evening and weekend nursing classes to be offered at ASCC's Thomasville campus
      Alabama Southern Community College in Thomasville will begin a new program in January 2008 that will allow licensed practical nurses (LPNs) to earn their associate degree in Nursing (ADN) by attending class in the evenings and on weekends.

ASCC English teacher has spooky tale published
      Samantha Frye, English instructor at Alabama Southern Community College, was recently published in the July 2007 "Dark Fire Fiction" Web newsletter for her story entitled "Put on a Happy Face." Dark Fire Fiction's site is described as an "online story showcase where you can find spooky tales to stun, amaze, entertain and send shivers down your spine.
