New annex welcome addition to courthouse
      The new $3.56 million annex to the Clarke County Courthouse was officially opened Monday morning. The annex features two new courtrooms, chambers and offices for two circuit judges, a new office for the county commission chairman and an extra office as well as space that can be developed in the future.

E-911 board doesn't take criticism lightly
      Members of the Clarke County E-911 board responded Monday morning to a critical commentary by Ivey Griffin, owner of WJDB-FM radio regarding the system. Commissioner Paul Bradford described Griffin's commentary as "theatrical….He doesn't outand out lie, but he doesn't tell the truth either," the commissioner said.

Coffee lovers now have a place to go in Jackson
      With the opening of HeBrews 2, there is now a place in Jackson for those who love specialty coffee shops. A grand opening was conducted Monday, July 9. The business is located in the old Subway building near the intersection of College Avenue and Highway 43. It is owned and operated by the Rev. E.C. Russell and his wife, Brenda.

County looks at new property values
      The Washington County Commission met in regular session on July 9 with a varied agenda. The most discussed item was dealt with the sale of a 5.5064 acres on county property at Cricket Hill. Robert Morris, who for several months has been in negotiation with the commission to purchase the property for a concrete plant, was present to get a price for the land.

Sen. Sessions urges USDA to release special funds to assist state's farmers
      In recent letters to the Secretary of Agriculture and key members of the House and Senate Appropriations committees, U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (RAL) urged that special discretionary funds at the United States Department of Agriculture be released to aid farmers and ranchers suffering from a record breaking drought in Alabama.
