Sheriff Jack Day retiring
Clarke County Sheriff Jack Day is retiring after a 40-year career in law enforcement. Day has worked as a deputy and as chief deputy and has been sheriff since 1994. Deputy Maurice Dyess, center, presented Day, right, with a plaque at a retirement reception last Thursday. At left is his son, Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day. Reflecting on his career, Day noted, “You learn to take the bad times with the good times. We’ve had some tragedies, but we’ve had a lot more good times and I’m glad for that. You always remember, you’re there to protect and serve the people.” Day leaves office Jan. 15 when the department’s Lieut. Bobby Moore, who was elected in November, will be sworn in.
