McIntosh Rescue Squad conducting

The McIntosh Rescue Squad will be sponsoring a memorial Christmas tree with colored lights to be placed in the town.

The lights will be changed to white as memorial donations are made. The goal is to change all the lights to white.

Anyone interested in purchasing a light in memory of a loved one should send a check or money order for $5 (per bulb) along with a form that can be obtained from any squad member or picked up at the McIntosh Town Hall to: McIntosh Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 477, McIntosh, AL 36553.

A tree lighting ceremony will be conducted on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. Participants may personally place their purchased bulbs on the tree at that time.

Squad members will be available with necessary forms and will present a receipt for the purchase.

A memorial book will be made and left in the squad building.

Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant

Church

The Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Church in Perry’s Chapel will be hosting their Christmas program, “The Homecoming” on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m.

Everyone is invited to attend.

Gospel singing at Christian Religious

Center

Everyone is invited to a gospel singing sponsored by the Union Missionary Association in Choctaw Bluff on Saturday, Dec. 16, 6:30 p.m. at the Christian Religious Center.

The program will feature groups, choirs and soloists from the surrounding area. The program will benefit the new Union Community Center. All groups, choirs and soloists are asked to sing an A&B selection. Donations will be appreciated.

United Blood

Services hosting

For the convenience of area residents, United Blood Services will be hosting a blood drive in Clarke County on Friday, Dec. 15, at Jackson Medical Center from 12-7 p.m. Donors will receive special long sleeve T-shirts.

People 17 years of age or older and in good health may schedule appointments at www.unitedbloodservices.org.

SAIA presenting

Medicare Part D

forum

Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SAIA) will be conducting a forum with information on the 2007 Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Benefit and Medication Therapy Management Services (MTMS).

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for individuals 65 years of age, under 65 with certain disabilities and any

age with end-stage renal (kidney) disease (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia).

W. Frank Porter, licensed insurance broker with AFLAC, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Humana Health Plan; and Dr. O.L. Hubert, P.D., MHS, FACA, DE, clinical pharmacist and pharmaceutical care provider will be the guest speakers Tuesday, Dec. 19, 7 p.m. at Jackson Steakhouse.

Little League

The Jackson Little League meeting will be Thursday, Dec. 14, 6:30 p.m. at city hall.

Christmas sale at

Caring Hearts Center

The Christmas sale at Caring Hearts Center in Chatom continues through Dec. 22.

There will be a special “fill a shopping basket for $5” sale of selected items, including children’s toys, stuffed animals, books, shoes, socks, underwear, clothes and other miscellaneous items.

In addition, other large item toys and stuffed animals will be specially priced for your Christmas shopping. Items included in the sale will be in specially marked bins for your convenience.

JPD Operation

Christmas begins

The Jackson Police Department will once again sponsor “Operation Christmas” for the less fortunate in the city.

To qualify for this program one must live within the city limits of Jackson and have a need for assistance.

All applications will be verified through the Department of Human Resources.

Toys will be distributed Dec. 18 from 6-9 p.m. at the old Alabama Power Co. building on Commerce Street in Jackson. Donations will be accepted at the Jackson Police Station at 118 College Ave. Call 246-4484 to make arrangements to pick up the donations.

VFW 5355 meetings

The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meets the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road. Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.

Sickle Cell

support

Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Diabetic support

The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Diabetes education is also provided by the hospital free of charge. To schedule an appointment call (251) 275- 3191, ext. 507.
