Engagement party conducted in honor of Skipper - Reeves

Courtney Elizabeth Skipper of Foley, daughter of Helen and Joe Skipper of Jackson and John Calvin “Cal” Reeves of Foley, son of John Calvin Reeves of Jackson and the late Mary Angela Watts, were honored with an engagement party on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006 at Lake Joe Joe in Jackson.

Family members conducted a ceremony dedicating a fountain at the lake house in memory of the groom-elect’s late mother, Mary Angela Reeves Watts before the guests arrived.

Hosting the event were Cheryl and Grady Bedwell, Wanda and Mike Blount, Terri and Johnny Bolen, Cindy and Buddy Boykin, Pat and Mike Furr, Patricia Harvey, Betty and Bobby Hentschel, Kathy and William Phillips, Audra and Brian Raybon, Ann and Ron Scogin and Kevin Taylor, all of Jackson; Lori and Dan Carmichael of Birmingham, cousins of the bride-elect, Jennifer and Chris Eriksen of Augusta, Ga., Lillian and Edward Gilley and Ellen and Lee Waller, all of Mobile and France and Trey Sparks of Fairhope.

Special guests attending were Elizabeth Skipper of Millers Ferry and Elizabeth Hesse of Severna Park, Md., both grandmothers of the bride-elect, Tiffany Dunagan of Leroy, sister of the groom-elect, Blake Reeves of Jackson, brother of the groom-elect, Jonathan Skipper, brother of the brideelect, aunts, uncles and cousins of the couple and members of the wedding party.

A Thanksgiving theme of autumn colors was used throughout the lake house. A Christmas tree, decorated with cutout paper turkeys, held childhood photos of the couple.

A skit was performed by the father of the bride-elect who was dressed as a preacher and accompanied by nine ladies, friends of the family, dressed in bridesmaids dresses from years past. They performed a variety of songs which included “Going to the Chapel”, “With This Ring” and “New York, New York”. The father of the bride-elect serenaded the couple with his rendition of “It Had To Be You” with music provided by one-man band, J.R. Owens of Gulf Shores.

A menu of pork tenderloin, salmon, Cape Cod dips with vegetables, marinated cheeses, Charleston cheese with crackers and petit fours was served.

Various guests and family members made toasts to the couple in celebration of their upcoming marriage.

The couple was presented a Thanksgiving basket filled with a variety of useful gifts from the hosts.
