Dr. Steven Furr elected to serve third term on medical association board

Steven P. Furr, MD, a family practice physician from Jackson and former vice president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, has been elected to serve a third term on the Medical Association of the State of Alabama's Board of Censors. He was first elected in 2001. He has also been named to the Alabama State Committee of Public Health and the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Furr currently practices

with the Southwest Alabama Physicians group in Jackson. In addition, he serves as a clinical assistant professor in the department of Family Medicine at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, as a volunteer faculty member for the University of Alabama/Huntsville in primary medical care family practice. Dr. Furr also serves as clinical associate professor for the University of Alabama School of Medicine's

Department of Family and Community Medicine and a clinical associate professor in the department of Family Medicine.

He has served in several leadership roles with the medical staff for Jackson Medical Center, the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians and Clarke County Medical Society. He currently serves as an alternate delegate for the American Medical Association from the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Furr is a member the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Christian Medical and Dental Society and the American Medical Directors Association.

A 1981 graduate of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, Dr. Furr completed his residency training at the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Family Practice Program. He is a diplomat with the American Board of Family Practice and a fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians. An active member of the First

United Methodist Church in Jackson, Dr. Furr has also participated in a variety of medical missions, traveling to such places as Kenya and Zambia to provide medical care to their citizens.
