The Leroy Bears advanced to the semi-finals of the state playoffs on Friday night with a big 36-16 victory over the Lanett Panthers in Chambers County.

The Bears from Washington County got on the board first with a 2-yard touchdown run from Detrick Powell. The PAT snap was bad and over Paul Gartman's head. Leroy took a 6-0 lead with 4:55 left in the opening quarter.

Leroy would strike again in the second with 6:49 on the clock when Clint Moseley hooked up with Patrick Rivers for a 50-yard touchdown pass completion. Moseley hooked up with Steven Scoggins on the two-point conversion attempt to give Leroy the 14-0 lead.

Lanett would cut the Bears lead in half when Lamarcus Wright hooked up with Jawann Booker for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Andre Johnson found the middle on the two-point conversion to send the score to 14-8 half way through the third quarter.

The Bears would answer that call when Michael Bracy hit a 6-yard touchdown run. Powell ran up the middle for the two-point conversion to make it 22-8 in favor of Leroy with 1:25 to go in the third.

Moseley helped his own cause with 5:21 left in the quarter-finals contest when he ran for 11 yards and the touchdown. Gartman would finally get to attempt an extra point and he was good on that attempt as Leroy took a 29-8 lead.

Moseley added one more when he broke several tackles on a 26-yard touchdown run with 3:23 left in the contest. Gartman would add another extra point to put the Bears up 36-8.

Lanett would add one more score when Wright found Johnson on a 9-yard touchdown pass reception. Wright hooked up with Antonio Harper for the two-point conversion making it 36-16 with 1:14 left.

Moseley ended the night 6-7 passing for 125 yards rushing and 37 yards on nine attempts. Powell had 103 yards rushing while Ronald Bracy added 96 yards.

Leroy ended the night with 438 yards of total offense while Lanett added 214.
