Christmas tree lighting Saturday

The city of Jackson will conduct a Christmas tree lighting ceremony this Saturday, Nov. 25, at 5 p.m., in downtown Jackson.

The event will also feature musical performances by Jessica Williams, the Jackson Academy Choir, the Jackson Middle School Choir and the Jackson High School Madrigals.

Santa will be availablle for photos with the children. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras. Hot cocoa and cappucino will be sold during the event.

Streets to be closed The Jackson Police Department will block off several streets from 4-6:30 p.m. while the festivies take place.

Commerce Street will be closed where it intersects with Kimbell Avenue and Broad Street. Portions of Carrol and Monroe streets will be closed. Church Street from Commerce Street to Forest Avenue will be blocked, as will College Avenue at Rose Street.
