Leroy tramples the Titans

The Leroy Bears advanced to the second round of the Alabama state playoffs with a 41-14 win over the Titans of Holy Spirit Friday night.

The scoring started when Clint Moseley hit a 22-yard run for a touchdown. Paul Gartman's PAT was good to make it 7-0 with 10:02 left in the opening quarter.

The Bears did not waste any time adding more points to their score. Moseley hooked up with Aerick Davis for a 51-yard touchdown. Gartman's PAT made it 14-0 with 8:17 left in the first quarter.

After another Holy Spirit punt, Leroy added six more on another QB keeper by Moseley. On the extra point, the snap was bad, which resulted in Patrick Rivers taking the ball into the end zone for the two-point conversion to make it 22-0 in favor of Leroy with 3:04 left in the first.

The Bears would strike again with 12 seconds left until the end of the first quarter. Moseley hooked up with Johnny Williams on a 14-yard touchdown pass. Gartman added the extra point to give Leroy the 29- 0 lead.

The Bears would add one touchdown in the second quarter when Steven Scoggins caught a 31-yard touchdown reception from Moseley. Gartman's PAT failed, which brought the score to 35-0.

On Holy Spirit's opening play from scrimmage in the second half, Eric DellaPenna hooked up with Jared Jackson for a 65-yard touchdown reception. Kris Guggenberger's extra point made it 35-7 in favor of Leroy.

Leroy's Jerome Taylor added the final touchown for Leroy on a 4-yard QB keeper to make it 41-7.

Holy Spirit added one more touchdown to their effort with 11:53 left in the contest when DellaPenna found Zack Shettles for the touchdown. Guggenberger added the PAT to send the score to what would be the final of 41-14.

Leroy (9-2) will host the second round of the state playoffs on Friday night when the Indians of Loachapoka come to town. The winner of this game will face the winner of the American Christian Patriots and the Lanett Panthers.
