George M. (Marc) Keahey (D-Grove Hill) was sworn in Monday at the Washington County Courthouse in Chatom, as the new Alabama House District 65 Representative.

Keahey, a young attorney from Clarke County, defeated incumbent Republican Nick Williams for the seat. Williams had been elected last year in a special election to replace the late Jeff Dolbare, who passed away before his term expired.

During Monday's ceremony, which took place in the large courtroom, Keahey was accompanied by his wife, Lara and one-yearold son, Marc II. He was sworn in by Circuit Judge Tom Baxter, while resting his hand on a Bible held by Circuit Judge Harold Crow.

Keahey is an attorney practicing law locally and also serves as the public defender. He recently returned to Grove Hill from Montgomery, where he worked for Speaker of the House Seth Hammett.
