Jon Luke Jacobs, a senior at Jackson High School, has signed with Auburn University to play baseball, beginning in the fall of 2008.

Jacobs participated in six special camp games over the summer including Mississippi State, North Carolina, Arkansas, Troy, North-South All-Star game and in Fort Myers, Fla. Auburn was able to pick up on Jacobs at North Carolina.

"Jon is a great student and great person," said JHS Head Coach Jason Jones. "He has a tremendous workethic on and off of the playing field. He is reaping rewards from his many years of hard work through all of his baseball programs, past and present."

Jacob's season came to an end last year in the first round of the state playoffs when Bibb County closed out the deal 7-2.

"I am really excited about getting to go and play for a D-1 college and a Southeastern Conference (SEC) school," said Jacobs. "I know a lot of people in Auburn. I know and like all of the coaches and staff at the university."

Jacobs verbally commited to Auburn back in September of this year.

"I am really excited for Jon and his family. This should be a very exciting time for the community of Jackson as well," said Jones. "I think he is going to do exceptionally well up there. He is a team player and wants to do what is best for his team and teammates, not just himself.

"I could fill up the newspapers with good things about him. I knew when he was in the 8th grade he was going to be something very special. He is one person who has lived up to his potential.," closed Coach Jones.

Auburn is in the SEC Western division in baseball with LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

"It is a fit up there, I am an Alabama fan, but it just feels better in Auburn than in Tuscaloosa," concluded Jacobs. "Auburn was interested in me the whole time and it made me feel better about the situation. I have to thank Coach Jones, Coach Etheridge and my family because none of this would be possible without them."

"I am very excited about Jon Luke," said Auburn Baseball Coach Tom Slater, who contacted Jacobs by phone last Wednesday morning for the signing. "He is a great kid who comes from a great family. We have been wanting him for a long time. He is a great addition to the Auburn family."
