Mark Your Calendar SWAIA conducting meeting Southwest Alabama Improvement Association, SWAIA, will conduct a public meeting, Tuesday, Nov. 21, 7 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. The guest speaker will be Bill Moncus, manager of the Rural Development, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for Clarke, Monroe and Conecuh counties. He will discuss rural housing, programs and other services available through the USDA. SWAIA is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting community unity/empowerment and improving the quality of life for individuals in Southwest Alabama from a holistic perspective, mentally, physically, spiritually and economically. Area interests include, but are not limited to, school reform, truancy, rural housing development, career/ employment opportunities, health care disparities, legal readiness, voter education/ awareness, public service accountability as well as youth and senior citizens concerns. CCERA to meet The Clarke County Education Retiree's Association will be meeting Thursday, Nov. 16 (today) in Coffeeville at New Faith Baptist Church. All education retirees are encouraged to attend this Thanksgiving meeting at 11:45 a.m. Southwest Alabama Medical Center Auxiliary sponsoring jewellry sale The Southwest Alabama Medical Center Auxiliary will be sponsoring a Masquerade $5 Jewelry Sale on Monday, Nov. 27 and Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the new lobby of the Thomasville Nursing Home. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted. Proceeds will benefit the hospital. CCAC of ASU to meet The Clarke County Alumni Chapter of Alabama State University will be conducting its monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 16, (today) at Jackson City Hall at 5 p.m. All members are urged to attend. Coffeeville RSVP will meet Dec. 5 The Coffeeville RSVP will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5 for a holiday luncheon. Everyone is invited to attend. Medical and dental health fair Nov. 17 The Franklin Primary Health Center Inc.'s Gilbertown Medical Center will be hosting a medical and dental health fair on Friday, Nov. 17 from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Free screenings will include dental, blood pressure, cholesterol, HIV testing, weight and nutrition counseling, blood sugar, vision and hearing. There will be a space walk, face painting and clowns for the children, free food for everyone, plenty of gifts and several $25 cash drawings. Flu shots will also be available for a minimal fee. JPD Operation Christmas begins The Jackson Police Department will once again sponsor "Operation Christmas" for the less fortunate in the city. To qualify for this program one must live within the city limits of Jackson and have a need for assistance. All applications will be verified through the Department of Human Resources. The program will conduct signup at the police station on Monday, Nov. 20. Toys will be distributed Dec. 18 from 6-9 p.m. at the old Alabama Power Co. building on Commerce Street in Jackson. Donations will be accepted at the Jackson Police Station at 118 College Ave. Call 246- 4484 to make arrangements to pick up the donations. JHS Class of 1976 conducting reunion The Jackson High School Class of 1976 will be conducting their 30th class reunion on Saturday, Nov. 25-Sunday, Nov. 26 at the Jackson Recreation Center (formerly the Jackson Municipal Pool) on J.W. Sickle Cell support Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Diabetic support The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
