Church Announcements First United Methodist Church The annual Christmas Stepsing, sponsored by the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) in Jackson, is scheduled for Sunday evening, Dec. 3 at 6 on the steps of the church. For more than 10 years, local church and school choirs have participated in the event. Several church and school choirs have already signed up. "If your church or school choir or singing group wishes to join us and present Christmas music, call the church office at 246-2224," said Elaine Carr, choir director at FUMC. Everyone is asked to bring a lawn chair and blanket. Hot chocolate will be served by members of the FUMC. First Baptist Church in Leroy The First Baptist Church in Leroy will be presenting "An Evening of Holiday Music and Praise", featuring Georgiann Woodyard Lewis and Amanda Woodyard McLain, church accompanists, on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. They will play arrangements on the piano, organ and flute. Areception will be held in the church activities building immediately following the program. The Rev. James Watkins, pastor, invites the public to attend. Jackson Street Baptist Church The Jackson Street Baptist Church will be celebrating their 68th anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Moses Lartey and his congregation of Clarke Street Baptist Church in Thomasville will be the special guests. Everyone is invited to attend, said the Rev. Larry Purifoy, pastor. First Baptist Church of Jackson The First Baptist Church Jackson WMU will be conducting an International Mission Study on Nigeria, Monday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. Cindy Still of Bay Minette will be the guest speaker. Still is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She was the Nevada Baptist state director of the WMU, minister of education at the First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, Miss., the Missouri Baptist State Women's Ministry director and an international conference leader and retreat speaker. There will be a covered dish luncheon following the mission study. All women are invited to attend. Grove Hill United Methodist Church The Grove Hill United Methodist Church (GHUMC) is preparing a choir anthem for the Grove Hill Community Thanksgiving Service to be conducted at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Sunday evening, Nov. 19. The selected music was a special request from Pastor Dave W. Rhodes-a beautiful old Charles Wesley hymn, "And Can It Be?" The pastor will be performing with the choir. The GHUMC Chancel Choir will be presenting "Behold That Star", a Christmas cantata, on Sunday, Dec. 17 at the morning worship service. First Pentecostal Church First Pentecostal Church in Jackson will be celebrating the 26th pastoral anniversary of Pastor and Mrs. R. K. Rivers with special services Nov. 17, 18 and 19. Guest minister will be Dr. R. G. Molsbee of Gulfport, Miss. Services will begin each evening at 7. Sunday afternoon will feature Terry Joe Terrell for an afternoon of "Southern Gospel" singing beginning at 2. Everyone is invited to attend. Sunday night service is dismissed. St. James A.M.E. Church There will be a church anniversary celebration on Nov. 19, 2 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church in Choctaw Bluff. The Rev. William Jackson, pastor of Little Burrah Baptist Church in Manila and his congregation, will be the speaker and guests. Pastor Clausell Boykin invites everyone to attend. Mt. Gilead Baptist Church The Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Carlton will be celebrating its 114th church anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 26. Minister James Campbell, pastor of New Canaan Baptist Church in Choctaw Bluff, will be the 11 a.m. guest speaker. The 3 p.m. speaker will be the Rev. Dave Adams of Mackey Branch Baptist Church No. 2 in Gosport and Sunflower Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Lee Bush Jr., pastor, invites the public to attend. Greater New Hope A.M.E. Church The Greater New Hope A.M.E. Church in Millry will be hosting its annual Choir Day on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 11 p.m. The Rev. Ivory James, pastor, invites everyone to attend. Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church in Jackson will be celebrating its 134th anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Christopher Smith, pastor of Leroy A.O.H. Church of God, will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited to celebrate this event, said the Rev. Kevin Jackson, pastor. New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church The New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Choctaw Bluff is hosting its annual Men's Day and Women's Day programs on Sunday, Nov. 19. Guest speaker for the 11 a.m. Women's Day program is Queen Williams of Mobile. The Rev. Sylvester Adams, pastor of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prichard, will speak at the 2:30 p.m. men's program. The Rev. Van William Sr., pastor, invites everyone to attend. Jackson First Assembly of God The Jackson First Assembly of God will be distributing 100 Thanksgiving Blessing Boxes this year. The boxes will contain items needed for a Thanksgiving meal. The first 100 people to call the church office at 246-4736 will be able to reserve a box. They must also attend the church's worship service on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. Boxes will be available immediately following the service. The church is located on Highway 69, across from the National Guard Armory.
