Washington County washes the Rams away
By Kyle Morris SA Corrospondent

Washington County celebrated senior night with a win over the Francis Marion Rambling Rams. Coach Wofford was proud of the way his seniors led the team to a dominating 40 - 0 win and even prouder of the character they showed hours before the game even kicked off.

"The Smith brothers'; Marcus, Nick, and Scotty, house burnt down this morning. Our seniors went around school today and collected over $270 and gave it to the boys' mother before the game tonight ,"said Coach Wofford. "That means more to me than any win.

"As for the game, Washington County completely controlled the game on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs amassed 372 yards while holding the Rams to 36.

Francis Marion opened the game with a quick three-andout and were forced to punt. Washington County got the ball on their own 15-yard line. Senior defensive lineman Tanner Dearmon carried the ball 9 yards on first down. On the next play, the Bulldogs fumbled the ball and Francis Marion recovered and set up shop at the Bulldogs 24-yard line.

Washington County's defense once again stood tall and on fourth down Kyle Dees intercepted the Deonte Jones' pass.

On first down, Senior offensive lineman Lance Cooper

took the handoff around left end and picked up 5 yards. Senior offensive lineman Cody Beech picked up the first down on the next play with a 5-yard run. On first down, senior defensive lineman Demar Herrera ran the ball 13 yards for another first down, but on the next play the turnover bug hit the Bulldogs again as the ball was fumbled and Francis Marion recovered.

The Rams would give the ball right back on a fumble of their own. Maurice Leverette caught the fumble in mid-air and raced down the sideline 53 yards for the score and the Bulldogs led 6 - 0.

The Washington County defense forced another turnover on Marion's next possession. Kez Cooper intercepted the ball

and returned it 28 yards to give the Washington County offense good field position at the Francis Marion 48-yard line. Marcelis Richards took the handoff on the first play and picked up 13 yards. On the next play, Simeon Williamson raced 35 yards for the score and a 12 - 0 lead.

After another Francis Marion three-and-out, Washington County took over on the Rams 39-yard line. Three plays later the Bulldogs were in the endzone again on Richards' 1-yard touchdown run. Leverette added the extra point and the score was 19 - 0 with 10:54 remaining in the half.

The Bulldog defense once again rose to the occasion and forced a three-and-out.

Washington County took over and mounted an 11-play, 55- yard touchdown drive capped off by Kyle Pennington's 1-yard touchdown toss to Davin Green. The Bulldogs now led 26 - 0 with 4:57 remaining in the half. Washingotn County almost got on the board again before halftime as Leverette's 41-yard field goal attempt had the distance but was wide left.

The coaches agreed to shorten the quarters in the second half to 8 minutes. Eric Barnes took the second half kick off 79 yards for a touchdown and a 33 - 0 lead 15 seconds into the third quarter. On Washington County's next possession, Pennington hooked up with Drake Warr for 50 yards down to the 5-yard line. Marcelis

Richards ran it in on the next play for the final score of the game.

The reserves played the rest of the game and played well. Zeb Dickey recorded four tackles for the JV defense and Phillip Parnell ran well for the JV offense, highlighted by his 57-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Daniel Bowman and Tanner Dearmon each had eight tackles to lead the Bulldog defense, and Marcelis Richards had two touchdown run to lead the Bulldogs offense.

Washington County will take on the Millry Wildcats Friday night in their annual grudge match. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. on Wildcat Hill.
