Area Obituaries Jewel Manuel Kennon Jewel Manuel Kennon, 75, a resident of Chatom, died Oct. 24, 2006 at Providence Hospital in Mobile. She was a member of Cooper Lewis C.M.E. Church in Chatom where she was a member of the senior choir and a Sunday School teacher. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Craig and Duesther Malley, both of Chatom; five sons, Lonnie Manuel, Willie Malley, Charles Malley and Joe Malley, all of Chatom and Terry Malley of Portland, Ore.; four sisters, Georgia Perry of Mobile, Winnie McLaurin, Gennie Anderson and Ann Robinson, all of Long Island, N.Y.; brother, Perry Everett of Millry; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service was Oct. 30 at Cooper Lewis C.M.E. Church in Chatom. Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Chatom with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing. Gene H. Turner Gene H. Turner, 56, of Owensboro, Ky., formerly of Westbrook, Maine and Jackson for five years, died Oct. 26, 2006 at his home in Nashua, N.H. He was born on Feb. 18, 1950 in Portland, Maine to the late Frederick and Helen (Ladd) Turner. A graduate of Husson College in Bangor, Maine, he was employed as a paper machine supervisor. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and playing the guitar. Survivors include his wife of 8 1/2 years, Vicki Hamilton Turner of Nashua; son, Steve Turner of Nashua; daughter, Julie Holmansky of Nashua; two grandchildren, Nathan Holmansky and Laura Holmansky, both of Nashua; stepdaughter, Mallory Tichenor of Owensboro; father-in-law, Wilbur L. Hamilton of Owensboro; two brothers, Fred Turner of Windham, Maine and Richard Turner of Sebago Lake, Maine; aunt, Mildred Stanley of Westbrook, Maine and several nieces and nephews and one great niece. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Blais & Hay Funeral Home in Westbrook. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook with James H. Mary Frances Williams Mary Frances Williams, 53, a resident of Deatsville, died at her residence on Sept. 21, 2006 after an extended illness. The funeral service was Sept. 23 at Pine Level Methodist Church in Prattville with Pastor Ray Bass and the Rev. Dric Williford officiating. Burial was in the Prattville Memory Gardens with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Pallbearers were Paul Queen, Michael Thomas, Doug Pack, Jeff Puckett, Derek Griffith and Bobby Blackladge. Fred Barnes was honorary pallbearer. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Wiley Meeks and brother, James Allen Hall. Charles Raymond Atchison Charles Raymond Atchison, a native and resident of Salitpa, died Oct. 28, 2006 at a local nursing facility at the age of 68. He was a self-employed church pew salesman and a member of River Hill Baptist Church in Salitpa. Survivors include two sons, Thomas "Chip" Atchison of Gainestown and Charles R. Atchison Jr. of San Francisco, Calif.; two daughters, Krystie Dunn and Ashley Dismukes, both of Mobile; seven brothers, Roy Atchison, Bobby Atchison, Ronnie Atchison, Fred Atchison and Wayne Atchison, all of Salitpa, David Atchison and James Atchison, both of Jackson; two sisters, Florence Marie Faircloth and Nancy Townsend, both of Salitpa and five grandchildren. The funeral service was Oct. 31 at the River Hill Baptist Church in Salitpa. Interment was in the Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing. Robert Hamilton McConnell Jr. Robert Hamilton McConnell Jr., 58, a native and resident of Whatley, died Oct. 29, 2006 at his residence. A self-employed painter, he was a member of Asbury Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Neal McConnell of Thomasville; daughter, Beth McConnell of Thomasville; father, Robert H. McConnell Sr. of Whatley; three sisters, Alice Parten of Thomasville, Sheila Anderson of Perry's Chapel and Becky Cotten of Walker Springs; brother, Billy McConnell of Whatley and four grandchildren, Raven McConnell, Dawson McConnell, Ryleigh McConnell and Hamilton McConnell, all of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorene Presnall, daughter, Sue McConnell and son, Bob McConnell. The funeral service was Oct. 31 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with Revs. Johnny Harvell and Doug Williams officiating. Interment was in the Whatley Cemetery. Mary Eleanor Robinson Mary Eleanor "Tootsie" Robinson, 74, a native of Wilcox County and a resident of Whatley, died Oct. 27, 2006 in Jackson. She was a homemaker and member of Amity Baptist Church in Whatley. Survivors include her husband, Florence "Mug" Robinson of Whatley; son, Derek Robinson of Whatley; two brothers, James L. Hicks of Pensacola, Fla. and Wallace C. Hicks of Camden and sister, Betty Lindsey of Whatley. A memorial service was conducted at the Amity Baptist Church in Whatley on Oct. 30. The Rev. Percy Clarke officiated with Lathan Funeral Home of Grove Hill directing. Edward L. Tarver Edward L. Tarver of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, died Aug. 18, 2006 at Titus Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. Born on Jan. 20, 1921 in Wagarville, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Nevada along with his brother Melvin. He was employed in the poultry management business for more than 50 years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Wynne Tarver of Mt. Pleasant; three sons, Ricky (Margie) Tarver and Tommy (Cynthia) Tarver, all of Lake Charles, La. and Dwight (Bert) Tarver of Semmes; two daughters, Brenda (Rickey) Credeur of Lake Charles and Starly Ann (James) Anderson of Theodore; two brothers, Douglas (Mae) Tarver of Wagarville and Melvin Tarver of Spanish Fort; two sisters, Minnie Chagnon of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Ruby Graham of Spanish Fort; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of Lake Charles and many nieces, nephews and other family members. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 4, 11 a.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Wagarville with visitation at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing. Levon Edward Wade Levon Edward Wade, 54, a member of River Hill Baptist Church in Salitpa and a painter and sandblaster for Alabama Sandblasting and Coating Co., died Oct. 26, 2006 at a Mobile hospital. He was a resident of Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Teresa A. Wade of Jackson; son, James Wade of Jackson; two daughters, Roxanne Holton and Amanda Wade, both of Jackson; two brothers, Spencer Wade of Salitpa and Billy Wade of Jackson and three grandchildren. The funeral service was Oct. 28 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with the Rev. Mike Maloy officiating. Interment was in the Cantuche Cemetery in Salitpa. Pallbearers were Joey Wade, Jesse Wade, Henry Wade, Tony Beck, Joshua Holton and Mike Grayson.
Honorary pallbearers were Lamar Motes, Richard Motes, Christopher Willis and Bobby Cassity.
