Mark Your Calendar Veteran's Day assembly in gym at JA There will be a Veteran's Day Assembly in the gymnasium at Jackson Academy on Friday, Nov. 10 from 10-11 a.m. There will be guest speakers and the public is invited to attend. The school is located at 1954 Coffeeville Road in Jackson. United Cerebral Palsy conference The United Cerebral Palsy of Mobile (UCP) in conjunction with United Cerebral Palsy of Alabama announces the 2006 Alabama Early Intervention and Preschool Conference to be hosted in Mobile at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel on Nov. 8-10. The 3-day interdisciplinary conference will explore the latest techniques, technologies, philosophies, applications and procedures available to parents, educators, medical professions and the general public in regard to children with and without disabilities ages 0-6 years old. JPD Operation Christmas begins The Jackson Police Department will once again sponsor "Operation Christmas" for the less fortunate in the city. To qualify for this program one must live within the city limits of Jackson and have a need for assistance. All applications will be verified through the Department of Human Resources. The program will begin with signup at the police station on Monday, Nov. 6 and Nov. 20. Toys will be distributed Dec. 18 from 6- 9 p.m. at the old Alabama Power Co. building on Commerce Street in Jackson. Donations will be accepted at the Jackson Police Station at 118 College Ave. Call 246-4484 to make arrangements to pick up the donations. JHS Class of '57 planning reunion The Jackson High School Class of 1957 will conduct a planning meeting for a class reunion Nov. 6, 6 p.m. in the conference room of Jackson City Hall. Bazaar set at Millry Methodist Church A bazaar to benefit the Millry Veteran's Memorial is planned for Nov. 11, 8 a.m. on the grounds of Millry United Methodist Church and parsonage. Items to be sold are handcrafts, baked goodies, other foods and drinks. A memorial program is scheduled at the monument at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend. Wagarville Nutrition Center The Wagarville Nutrition Center will be hosting a program titled, "Young at Heart Big Show" on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. The program will focus on nutrition. There will be door prizes and plenty of fun. The cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children. Children 5 and under are free. JHS Class of 1976 conducting reunion The Jackson High School Class of 1976 will be conducting their 30th class reunion on Saturday, Nov. 25-Sunday, Nov. 26 at the Jackson Recreation Center (formerly the Jackson Municipal Pool) on J.W. Heart of Dixie Collectors Club hosting show The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will be hosting their first collectable show and sale on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at H.W. VFW 5355 meetings The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meets the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road. Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome. Sickle Cell support Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Diabetic support The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
