Reception at FUMC honors local pastors
AseraCare chose to honor the pastors who volunteer their time to assist with spiritual support needed for hospice patients in the area. Abrunch was served to all of the attending pastors and speakers. "October is 'Clergy Appreciation Month' and we wanted to honor our local pastors for the support they give to our hospice patients and their families," said Dianna Brown, volunteer coordinator for AseraCare. Our motto is, 'The experience to know, the passion to care and the skill to do'" Guest speaker, Angie Thornton, provider relations manager for AseraCare, spoke about the care the familycentered hospice administers to their patients and their families. "We try to make the dying process a peaceful and painless experience, not only for the patients themselves, but also in the guidance of their family members," said Thornton. "I have been with hospice care for the last three years and it was through my own experience with my mother dying that led me to this wonderful job. I wanted to give back what was so generously given to my family during a difficult time."
Attending were the Rev. Don Rushing, pastor of Forest Avenue Baptist Church; the Rev. Jim Dufriend, pastor of First United Methodist Church; the Rev. D.W. Moore, pastor of Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church and his wife, and the Rev. Brian Jemison, Minister of Music and Senior Adults at the First Baptist Church; and Dottie Fore and Pam Kelly, members of the FUMC staff.
