Blue Devils catch the Aggies on fire
"We did not play well. We went over there knowing that they had a good team," said JHS Head Coach John Blackmon. We did not play well during the first half and we could not recover from it. I did not do a good job getting this team prepared for Escambia County. I was disappointed in the way we played." The Aggies scored after Escambia got their first score. Kent Myer hooked up with Ricardo Dredd for the six points. J.D. Mitchell added the extra point and the game was tied 7-7 with 6:43 left in the opening quarter. Escambia added three more touchdowns and a safety before Jackson could score again. With the score 28-7, Andrew Ezell took a kick off 95 yards for the touchdown. Mitchell's PAT was good and ECHS led the Aggies 28-14 with 3:05 left until halftime. Escambia would add one more score before the break, but the extra point attempt was blocked by the Aggies, and the Blue Devils led Jackson 36-14 going into the locker-rooms at the half.
After another strong hold, Jackson was able to stuff one in from 1 yard out and the Aggies were now down by only one touchdown, 36-28. Escambia was able to add one more touchdown on the ensuing drive to put the game away 42-28 in a huge region win for the Escambia County Blue Devils. The Aggies and the Blue Devils combined for 23 penalties on the night where the yellow flag was seen alot. Myers was 6-for-11 passing on the game for 125 yards and a touchdown. On the season, he is 51-for-77 passing for 638 yards and six touchdowns. Ezell has rushed the ball 56 times this season for a total of 448 yards and eight touchdowns.
"I was very disappointed in the way we played in the losing effort, but we have to put this game behind us and prepare for the No. 1 team in Class 4A in the T.R. Miller Tigers. We have to travel to Brewton, so it will be a little bit tougher," said Blackmon. "I do not want to take anything away from Escambia County, they played excellent football."
Jackson will travel to Brewton Friday night to take on the No. 1 ranked T.R. Miller Tigers. Game time is 7 p.m.
