Local racer hitting the track at Talladega

Craig Butts heads to the track from Pit Row in his No. 50 Dodge.
Craig Butts is expected to be running the Food World 250 this Friday, Oct. 6 at the Talladega Raceway.

The 250-mile race will be at 4:30 p.m. A delayed telecast will be carried on the Speed Channel at 7 p.m.

Butts tested for the race last week and had a record of 189 mph. He was the fastest of the 39 cars that tested.

Actual qualifying will be this Thursday with 60 racers competing for 42 positions.

Butts drives a Dodge for Bobby Jones Racing of Mooresville, N.C. and runs in the American Race Car Association (ARCA). The car is sponsored by Palomar Insurance.

This is the third or fourth ARCA race Butts has made at Talladega.
Butts is the son of Jimmy Butts of Jackson.
