Aggies send Southside back North
The Aggies got the scoring started with 7:49 left in the opening quarter when Andrew Ezell took it in from 2 yards out to give Jackson the 6-0 lead. The only other score of the first half came when Michael Austin also took a 2-yard run into the end zone. Broderick Washington added the twopoint conversion and the Aggies had the 14-0 advantage going into the locker room at halftime. The Aggies came back out and scored with 4:30 left in the third quarter. B. Washington took it in to make it 21-0 on a 10-yard run. With 59 seconds left in the third quarter, Austin made it 27-0 on a 15-yard touchdown run. J.D. Mitchell came on and added the extra point, and Jackson was defeating Southside of Selma 28-0. The Panthers got their first score on a 22-yard pass play on fourth and 14. The two-point conversion failed and it was 28-6. Corey Besteda intercepted Southside's pass on the next possession and took it back to the Panther 1-yard line. B. Washington powered to football in and Mitchell added the PAT to make it 35-6. Southside added two more scores, one on a pass play with 7:00 left in the fourth quarter of play, and the last one coming on the last play of the ball game when the Panther quarterback took the ball in from 4 yards out to send the final score to 35-18 in favor of the home team. "This was a huge region win for us," said Jackson Head Coach John Blackmon. "This is a game that we had to win to stay in the region race and we succeeded at that. We should have played better, but an ugly win is a lot better than a pretty loss. "This was a good comeback off of that tough region loss to Thomasville last week. We are now 2-1 in Class 4A Region 1 play. I belive that we are playing good football right now and we have to keep it up." The Aggies (2-2, 2-1 in 4A Region 1) will play host to county-rival Clarke County this week as they celebrate homecoming 2006.
Southside-Selma will travel to Central-Hayneville in north Lowndes County for their second non-region game of the 2006 campaign.
