Bulldogs dot Leopards with 'L'
Kenneth Kimbrough took the Leopard opening offering and 91 yards later he crossed into pay dirt for a Bulldog touchdown. The try for two came up short, but CCHS had a 6-0 lead with 11:44 remaining in the first quarter. Mobile Christian took the ensuing kick and drove to the Bulldog 31-yard line before the drive stalled. Jonah Fryfogle came on and missed 48-yard field goal attempt, wide right, leaving the score 6-0 in favor of Clarke County. The Bulldogs took the ensuing possession and gave the Leopards a steady diet of Kimbrough as they marched down the field. Quarterback Tyler Walker called his own number to cap the drive with a 1-yard sneak. Kimbrough ran in the twopoint conversion and CCHS led 14-0 with 4:05 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs forced a fumble and got the ball back on the MC 12-yard line, but the drive stalled at the 9-yard line, CCHS turned the ball over on downs. Clarke County had one more shot at the end zone before the first half came to an end but the Leopard defense turned them away at the 3-yard line and the half ended with the Bulldogs leading 14-0. In the third quarter the Leopards had the initial possession and moved down the field. When the drive stalled at the CCHS 21-yard line Fryfogle came on and nailed a 38-yard field, making it 14-3 with 8:41 left in the third quarter. The Bulldogs were driving later in the period when a fumble ended the scoring opportunity at the 22-yard line. On the third play Mobile Christian scored on a 58-yard pass and run from Courtney Edgar to Eric McDonald. The try for two came up short, but the Leopards had clawed they way back 14-9 with a few seconds left in the third quarter. Special teams set up the final score of the game for Clarke County. When the offense stalled at the Leopard 31-yard line. Bulldog punter Danny Norris performed a brilliant pooch kick that buried Mobile Christian at their own 4-yard line. On the second play the Bulldog defense forced a fumble that was recovered by Duane Owens at the 15-yard line. On the first play Kimbrough went the distance for the touchdown. He then added the twopoint conversion to give CCHS a 22-9 lead with 5:21 left in the game. One potential Leopard scoring drive was snuffed out by CCHS' Will Dannelly with just over a minute left to play. The Bulldogs came away with the 22-9 win to remain perfect in region play. Kimbrough led all rushers with 162 yards on 29 carries. He actually had more yards than the entire MC offense which was held to just 156 yards of offense. The Bulldogs had 252 yards of total offense. This Friday the Bulldogs (21, 2-0) take to the road when they head to Butler to take on Choctaw County in another region game. Choctaw County (1-2, 1-1) lost 40-18 to Washington County last week. Even though the Tigers have a new stadium the work is not complete so the game will be played at the old stadium on Highway 10.
