Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention conducts meeting

New and former presidents of the Southwest District of the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention front row (L-R) are W.C. McNeil, newly elected president, Joe Thomas, Gov. Riley's staff and expert on faith-based initiatives, Charles Lett, former president, Twinkle Cavanaugh, chair of the Alabama Republican Party and George Williams, Republican liason; back row (L-R) Les Barnett, chairman of District 1, John McMillian, Senate candidate and Pierce Boyd, chairman of District 7.
The Southwest District of the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention recently conducted an informational meeting and announced its new president.

Congressman Joe Bonner, not present, provided brochures supportive to the President's agenda. The initial meeting dealt with Faith-Based Initiatives, 501 (c)(3) and grants and funds as well as status information on Selma University and Certificate of Progress (COPP) information.

The meetings are usually conducted on Saturdays during which time many Baptist pastors conduct funeral services. For pastors to have the opportunity to be present, at least two meetings must be conducted at another time allowing all pastors to be present.

While the Faith-Based Initiative, 501(c)(3) and grants and funds information are being provided by the Southwest, the meeting is open to the general public. The objective of these meetings is to provide information

which will enable congregations, organizations and individuals to help themselves. President W.C. McNeil is focused on an attitude of inclusion rather than exclusion. He stated, "We are here to help everybody."

The next meeting of the Southwest District will be Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the Shady Union Baptist Church, located at 256 County Road 45 in Thomasville.

Pastor is the Rev. Alfred V. Pritchett.
