The Jackson High School Aggies got their first win of the season as they defeated Monroe County 44-0.

Jackson got on the board early as Richard Howard took the ball in from 18 yards out to make it a 7-0 ball game.

Two drives later, Kent Myer took it in from 1 yard out to make it 13-0 as the extra point was no good.

Terrance Roper added a touchdown following Myer's on a 6-yard bulldozered effort from his offensive line. The Aggies were on top 19-0.

Howard added yet another touchdown from 6 yards out to make it 26-0.

With 1:30 remaining in the first half, Roderick Washington returned a fourth down interception for 90 yards and a touchdown as the Tigers from Monroe County aired it out hoping they could grab a miracle. This interception return made it 34-0 in favor of the Aggies as they took it to halftime. With 6:58 to go in the third

quarter of play, John David Mitchell kicked a 32-yard field goal to make it 37-0 in favor of the hometown team.

The final scoring effort came with 8:25 left in the contest when Corey Besteda connected with Paul Foreman on a 52yard touchdown reception. This would draw the score to 44-0.

The Aggies were able to scrap up 464 yards of total offense while Monroe County was held to 148 yards.

"It feels good to play good football," said Coach John

Blackmon. "We were pleased with the way we played on both sides of the football. We had a good balance on the run and pass game. We were also able to cut down on turnovers. We still need to work on that some, although as we surrendered two this week."

Michael Austin led all rushers for the Aggies with 87 yards on 13 carries while Kent Myer went 9-14 with 68 yards passing with no interceptions. DeMarcus Besteda led the receivers with four catches for 44 yards.

"I thought the offensive line played well for us to be able to put up 44 points," said Blackmon. "Overall I think we have improved. We proved that as a football team. We need to keep getting better each week as well as every day at practice."

The Aggies will travel to Thomasville Friday to take on the No. 1 ranked Tigers in a county rivalry.

"Thomasville has a very good football team who can run the ball very well," said Blackmon. "Jake Overstreet is

a good quarterback and leader on the field. They are also a very well-coached and sound ballclub.

"Thomasville also has two very good fullbacks as well as a magnificent offensive line. Defensively, they are not that big, but they are very quick in everything they do. They can get to the ball quickly, which is a huge advantage over most of their opponents."

Monroe County will play host to the Jaguars from Hillcrest-Evergreen. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
