Jackson Nutrition Center announces schedule of upcoming week's events
Local citizens over the age of 60 qualify to receive free services such as legal help, health screenings and valuable nutritional information. They also enjoy lots of entertainment by local musicians, as well as informative presentations by business people and other professionals, while attending meetings at the center every Monday through Friday. The center's director Nellie Edge said she would like to see every senior citizen in Jackson take advantage of the services offered to them. "I want to encourage people to come down here and see what we are all about," she said. Each week The South Alabamian will begin listing the events scheduled at the center for the upcoming week. Following is the schedule for the week of Sept. 18-22: *Tuesday Jackson Medical Center Administrator Theresa Grimes will present a slide show of her recent mission trip to Nicaragua. *Wednesday The Rev. Grady Goodman will give a devotion for those in attendance. *Thursday Billy Harrison's musical group will sing. *Friday Evan Carden, editor of The South Alabamian will give a talk on the newspaper business. Those who want to find out more about the services offered at the Jackson Nutrition Center or wish to present a program to the senior may contact Edge at 2461300.
In mid-October The South Alabamian will publish a special section on senior living in the area, which will feature a more in-depth story about the nutrition center as well as articles on people of interest in our coverage area.
