begin aluminum can drive

The Clarke County People First aluminum can drive will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 19 and continue through Oct. 20 for the United Way goal of $400. Drop off point is at Clarke County ARC or call for pickup service at 246-3000.

Benefit cookout for

Earnest Williams is Oct. 7

A benefit cookout for Earnest Williams is planned for Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. He is in need of a prosthesis and it is very expensive. The benefit will be conducted across from the GoCo in Coffeeville at the intersection of Highway 69 and 84.

JHS Quarterback Club 1979 football

The Jackson High School Quarterback Club will be recognizing the members of the 1979 JHS championship football team and cheerleaders on Sept. 22 during the pregame ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. All team members are invited to participate at Legion Field. The Jackson High School Quarterback Club will be meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 6 p.m. in the school library.

Mullen to lecture at

Old Courthouse Museum

The 19th century naturalist and artist, Philip Henry Grosse will come to life with a lecture by Auburn University Professor of Entomology, Gary Mullen. on Sept. 14, 5:30 p.m. at the Old Courthouse Museum in Monroeville.

The lecture is part of the Draughon Seminars in State and Local History, a series of lectures sponsored by Auburn University. For more information call 251-575-7433.

Fulton School reunion Oct. 7

The Fulton School reunion is set for Saturday, Oct. 7, 10 a.m. in downtown Fulton.

The reunion is for everyone who attended the old and new school or lived in Fulton. There will be gospel singing beginning at 4 p.m. The reunion is sponsored by the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department. Everyone is asked to bring lawn chairs.

Christian Coalition to

change name

The Christian Coalition of Alabama will unveil its new name on Thursday, Sept. 14, 10:30 a.m. at the Alabama Department of Archives and History located at 624 Washington Avenue in Montgomery.

Board members, officers, staff and supporters will gather on the steps between Archives and History, facing the Capitol semi-circle of flags for the unveiling. VFW Post 5355 sponsoring

flag day

The VFWPost 5355 is sponsoring a flag day on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m.

Anyone with an old worn flag may bring it to the VFWClub on Club Wiley Road in Jackson and exchange it for a new 3ft.x 5ft. flag for a small donation. A flag burning ceremony will be conducted at this event. There will be entertainment and refreshments.

The workday will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 23 for all VFW members.

Free workshop for nonprofit

The Kresge Foundation of Troy, Mich., in partnership with The Community Foundation of South Alabama, announces a complimentary workshop to all nonprofit organizations on Oct. 3.

Commission

St Stephens Historical Commission will hold annual meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 12 noon at the Old Washington County Courthouse in Stephens. The public is invited to attend.

Vernal Chapel Baptist Church

homecoming

The Vernal Chapel Baptist Church will observing its homecoming celebration with weekend of activities beginning Friday, Sept. and continuing through Sunday, Sept. 24.

There will be a praise and worship service conducted by Pastor Bobby Cooper of Bronx, N.Y. Friday at 7 p.m.

On Saturday at 5 p.m. there will be a gospel concert featuring the Jackson Male Chorus. Homecoming services will be observed on Sunday at 3 p.m. and will be hosted by Cornelius Bryant and the congregation of Church of God Pentecostal of Choctaw Bluff. Revival services will begin on Monday, Sept. and continue through Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7:nightly. Everyone is invited to attend the celebration.

JIS hosting education

game night

The Jackson Intermediate School will be hosting its first education game night on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Students, grades 3-5 and adults, will play reading and math games. The public is encouraged participate.

Coffeeville VFD sponsoring

Shrimp Boil

The Coffeeville Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a Shrimp Boil, Oct. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highways 69 S and 84 W. Plates will be $8 each or per pound.

VFW 5355 meetings

The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meets the third Thursday of every month, p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road. Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.

Sickle Cell

Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Diabetic support
