The Clarke Prep School Gators suffered their first loss in almost a year as they lost 27- 14 to AAA powerhouse Faith Academy last Friday in Mobile.

The Rams drew first blood in the contest as Warren Collier scored on a 47-yard run on Faith's second possession of the game. The kick was good and the Rams led 7-0 with 9:49 left in the first quarter.

The Gators then made the most out of a Faith miscue as Clay Furrow recovered a Ram muffed punt, giving CPS life at the 9-yard line.

On the first play Wesley Morgan covered the distance for the touchdown. Chad Dickinson ran in the two-point conversion on the quarterback keeper, giving Clarke Prep an 8-7 lead with 6:28 left in the opening stanza.

Later in the period Collier broke free and scored on a 62- yard jaunt. The kick was again good giving the Rams a 14-8 lead with 2:37 left in the first.

Faith added to that lead in the second quarter. Following a blocked punt, the Rams had the ball near midfield.

Three plays into the drive Collier slipped through for a 31-yard touchdown. The added PAT made the score 21-8 with 8:42 to go in the half.

With 3:32 to go before halftime the Gators drew closer as Brett Bradford scored on a 2- yard run. The try for two came up short, making the score 21- 14.

The drive was set up after Taylor Becton had a good punt return down to the Ram 11- yard line.

The score remained 21-14 as the first half came to a close.

In the second half Collier again exploded to pay dirt as he scored on a one-play drive that covered 82 yards. The kick failed but the Rams had a 27-14 lead with 7:35 left to play.

The Gators drove to the Ram 32-yard line on the ensuing drive before turning the ball over on downs.

One other potential Faith scoring drive was cut short when Mason Baggett recovered a loose pigskin at the gator 15- yard line.

Neither team was able to threaten again as the Rams won the region contest 27-14.

Morgan paced the Gator offense with 62 yards on 14 carries and a score. Brett Bradford added 35 yards on 18 carries and a TD.

Collier paced Faith with 274 yards on nine carries and four scores.

This Friday the Gators (1-1, 0-1) look to get back to their winning ways as they take on Monroe Academy (0-2, 0-1). The Vols lost 32-0 to Morgan last week. Faith will travel to Fort Dale Academy next week.
