Stabbing in McIntosh leaves one injured

A Mississippi man was treated for stab and bite wounds following an altercation with a McIntosh man at the MOWA housing project on Topton Road, Monday, Sept. 4.

According to investigating Washington County Deputy Donnie Sullivan, Robert Ford, 46, of Longbeach, Miss. suffered what appeared to be stab and bite wounds following a physical confrontation with Luther Weaver, 53, of McIntosh at the residence of Weaver's sister, Mary Challender.

Sullivan said he was told that Ford, who is reportedly Challender's boyfriend, attempted to stop an argument between the siblings when Weaver allegedly attacked him.

Weaver was arrested and charged with second degree assault. He is currently being held in the Washington County Jail. No bond had been set by Tuesday's press deadline.

Assault charges filed in Leroy incident

Assault charges have been filed against Sheldon Anderson, 27, of Leroy, following an altercation that occurred Sunday, Sept. 3, around 3 a.m., in the Palmer Circle community.

According to Washington County Chief Deputy John Traylor, Merrill Reneé Morres, of Leroy, was beaten severely by Anderson during the incident. Jackson Police were notified of the altercation when Morres was transported to Jackson Medical Center by two female companions.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department was notified and Anderson was arrested and charged with second degree assault.
