WashCo rehires former engineer
During a meeting continued from Monday, the Washington County Commission unanimously voted, Tuesday, Aug. 29, to hire Jason Sturdivant as county engineer. Sturdivant is at step-12 in the state program and will be paid $90,000 (of which the state pays 70 percent). The commission entered into a 5-year contract with Sturdivant from Oct.1, 2006 until Oct. 1, 2011. The package also includes paid family medical coverage. Additionally, the commission agreed to bring aboard an assistant, Byron Moseley at $15 per hour. Sturdivant graduated from the University of Alabama in 1993 with a B.S. in civil engineering. His work experience includes assistant engineering positions in Choctaw and Chilton counties; interim county engineer in Coosa County; and County Engineer in Washington and Choctaw counties. Sturdivant said, "My main reason for coming back to Washington County is this county commission. This is a wonderful commission and I'm excited and ready to go."
Judge John H. Armstong said, "As far as I am concerned there was no politics concerned with the termination of Bob Gunter. I hope everything works smoothly in the transition with Charles." (Charles Singleton is the probate judge-elect.) (See HIRED on page 4)
