The Jackson Academy Eagles traveled to Jackson Field in Toxey last Thursday to face-off against South Choctaw Academy (SCA), falling 10-7 in the contest.

The Eagles took a 7-0 lead on South Choctaw with approximately 15 seconds left in the first half of play on a 23- yard hook-up from quarterback Wesley Harris to Brandon Gilpin. Max Harrell added the PAT for the Eagles.

The Eagles played a defensive ballgame for most of the second half keeping it a low scoring affair.

Jackson Academy allowed South Choctaw to score after a very costly turnover. S.C.A. scored with three minutes remaining and added the two-point conversion to give them a huge 8-7 lead.

The Eagles got the ball back at their own 20 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, the Eagles lined up in the shotgun formation, but the snap went over Harris' head and back into the end zone. He fell on the ball giving SCA a 10-7 lead plus the ball.

Harris went 8-11 passing during the first half. David Hughston and Gilpin both improved running the ball as the game progressed.

"We had several players who did an excellent job against South Choctaw," said JA Head Coach Lynn Wright. "Matt Barnes did a wonderful job on the offensive line while Max Harrell, Drew Jones and Dennis Cranmore looked wonderful on the defensive side."

The Eagles will play host to Cottage Hill next week to open up the regular season.

"We have to be able to stop Cottage Hill's passing game," said Wright. "They have two wonderful linebackers as well that also have to be stopped."
