WashCo Public Library announces top readers for summer reading program

The Washington County Public Library recently announced the top readers in each age group for the Claire C. Ramsey Summer Reading Program.

Kindergarten - First Grade

+First place - Nolan Baxter

+Second place - Moishia Brown +Third place - Trice Brown

Second - Third Grade

+First place - Dillon Woodyard

+Second place - Lee Carpenter

+Third place (tie) - Collin Cheatle and Luke Beech

Fourth - Sixth Grade

+First place and overall top reader - Shelby Grimes

+Second place - Brant Leblanc

+Third place (tie) - Kelsey Clark and Rodneasha Brown

The grand finale of the week's activities included group skits by the fourth - sixth grade group, in which they acted out different fairytales, while the other children attempted to guess which fairytale they were imitating.

Mom's Party Pals donated moonwalks and outdoor games for the children. Blue Bell ice Cream donated ice cream sandwiches for all the participants. Church's Chicken of Jackson provided lunch for the volunteers. Coca-cola of Leroy provided drinks for the day.

There were 30 teen volunteers for the week-long program, which, according to library director Jessica Ross was more than in recent years. "We had so many great teen volunteers this year," she added. "We also had great participation in the program, with approximately 250 participants."
