Counterfeit bills found in Millry The U.S. Secret Service is currently investigating an instance of counterfeit bills being passed at a store in Millry. According to Millry Police Chief Larry Harkless, the incident took place at Sookie's Grocery around 3:46 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 20. "A female subject entered the store and attempted to spend two $20 bills, which were determined to be counterfeit," said Harkless. "The U.S. Secret Service was contacted and is now handling the investigation." The chief went on to say that no arrests have been made in the incident, therefore the name of the person who attempted to spend the bills is being withheld at this time. "The investigation is continuing and charges are pending," he added. This is not the first instance in recent months in which counterfeit bills have been discovered in the area. In mid-June, several counterfeit $100 bills were found to be circulating in Jackson. A search warrant was executed at a Jackson residence during that time, but no arrests have been made to date.
The U.S. Secret Service is also investigating that case, which is believed to involve a technique that originated in Memphis, Tenn., where $5 bills are scanned and the $100 bills are superimposed over them.
