Nine arrested in task force drug roundup

Task Force One conducted a warrant roundup Aug. 17 within the city limits of Jackson, mainly in the Depot area.

The warrants were based on undercover drug operations. There were eight warrant arrests made and five additional arrests. The agencies that assisted Task Force One were Jackson Police Department, Alcohol Beverage Control agents, Clarke County Sheriff's Department and Alabama Army National Guard Security & Support Detachment, formally known as RAID.

Those arrested were Michael T. Johnson of Jackson, on charges of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance; Kelvin Jermaine Jordan, Edward Larry McReynolds, Marcus Terrill West, Antonio Eugene Ezell all of Jackson, all on charges of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance; Bryce Kendrick Woods of Jackson, on charges of two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance; Darnell Wilson of Jackson, on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance; JoEllen Gates of Jackson, on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance; and Quintin Tawaski Crowell of Jackson, on charges of first degree unlawful possession of marijuana.

Grove Hill man charged

with drug possession Jamaris Rios Frazier, 22, of Grove Hill was arrested Aug. 22, by Jackson Police and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Chief Charles Burge, the department received a call around 2 a.m. from the Citgo station on Highway 43 concerning an incident of indecent exposure. When officers arrived, the suspect was gone.

Approximately two hours later, around 4:04 a.m., the department received a second call from the store clerk who reported the suspect had returned. Officer Ben Marshall and Sgt. Josh Garrett responded and pulled over a black Nissan Maxima driven by Frazier.

Burge said Marshall observed what appeared to be a bag of marijuana in Frazier's right hand. Further investigation revealed that the bag contained four smaller bags, each containing the illegal drug. "It appeared it had been packaged for selling," the chief added.

During a search of the vehicle officers also found what appeared to be several rocks of crack cocaine. Frazier was booked into the Clarke County Jail.

Three face drug charges

In a separate incident, Tuesday, Aug. 15, Task Force One Commander Michael Hunt was in the Depot area and observed Tanya Brown pick up a known drug user/dealer then called for assistance from Task Force One Agent Lem DuBose.

The driver of the vehicle attempted to elude the agents and turned onto Avenue A off of East Boyles Street. Brown parked beside an abandoned house where the suspects were apprehended.

After searching the vehicle and the suspects, a substance believed to be crack cocaine was found. Brown and Cheryl Simon were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cedric Garraway was charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and served with a pervious warrant from Task Force One for unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
