Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Roden honored with several parties Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Roden, who were recently married in Birmingham, were honored with parties in Jackson the weekend of July 21-22 and a reception hosted by their parents in Birmingham on July 29. Mexican Fiesta On Friday, July 21, a Mexican fiesta was conducted in the Christian Life Center of the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Jackson. The Chancel Choir of FUMC hosted the event in honor of the couple. The Christian Life Center was decorated throughout with green plants and colorful summer flower arrangements using a Mexican theme. Dr. Stanley Beard, spokesperson for the choir, welcomed the guests. Hor d'oeuvres were served along with taco salad with an assortment of toppings. During the evening, Mexican music was played. After dinner, the couple opened their gifts. Special guests attending were Debbie and Gaines McCorquodale of Jackson, mother and stepfather of the groom. Kitchen Shower The home of Diane and Mac McCorquodale in Jackson was the setting for a kitchen shower given in honor of Sara and Bryan on Saturday evening. Co-hosting the event were Cindy and Buddy Boykin, Edna and Bob Stewart, Helen and Billy Guy and Gloria and Fred Huggins, all of Jackson. The dining room table was centered with a clear vase filled with handmade rosemary balls and parsley balls intermingled with measuring spoons and cups with mixed flowers including hydrangea, gerbera daisies, zinnias interspersed with fern. Red bandanna napkins adorned the table. Arrangements of mixed flowers and green plants were placed throughout the home. After dinner the couple opened their gifts. Special guests attending were Debbie and Gaines McCorquodale, mother and stepfather of the groom of Jackson, Mary Helen and Aiden Marks of Birmingham and Ginny and David Stewart and Will, all of Centreville. Reception A reception was held in honor of the couple at the Vestavia Country Club in Birmingham on Saturday, July 29. Parents of the groom, Debbie and Gaines McCorquodale and Lynn and Robert Roden of Birmingham, hosted the event. The bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Russell, also of Birmingham, were the special guests. Arrangements of fresh flowers and candles were placed throughout the ballroom. The food tables in the center of the room, were surrounded by individual round tables decorated with ecru linen cloths and ecru linen chair covers tied with bows. Arrangements of roses, lilies, mums, snaps and fern in silver baskets were placed on each table. The focal point of the room was the centerpiece placed on the buffet table which included a tall moss-covered topiary featuring roses, lilies, hydrangea, greenery mixed with other garden flowers. Served from the buffet table were fried oysters, chicken quesadillas, grilled vegetables, assorted crackers and cheeses, marinated mushrooms and other delicacies. The side tables held a mashed potato bar with an assortment of toppings, a carving station of beef tenderloin and yeast rolls. In the Oak Room of the country club, a round table in the center hall held a three-tiered wedding cake topped with a bouquet of fresh blush roses with white satin streamers. The cake was embossed with tiny flowers and confection swirls. On the mantel were mint julep cups filled with white roses and greenery. Music for listening and dancing was provided throughout the evening. As the couple danced their first dance together, they were showered with rose petals by the guests. Other traditional dances followed. Special guests attending were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hagood, grandparents of the groom and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hendricks, grandparents of the bride, all of Birmingham. Out-of-town guests included relatives of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. John Hinchey of Atlanta, Ga. and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Armstrong of Marietta, Ga. A number of family members and friends of the bridal couple also attended from Birmingham, Mobile and Jackson.
Prior to the parties, the couple honeymooned on a cruise to the Bahamas. They are residing in Birmingham.
