Coffeeville teacher indicted by grand jury

One hundred fifty true bills were returned by the Clarke County Grand Jury last week. Of those 129 were felony charges, 27 were misdemeanor charges and three cases were continued until the next grand jury. Sharon Linton Rutherford, a

ninth grade English teacher at Coffeeville High School was indicted for having sexual relations with students and for soliciting the murder of her husband by one of the students.

Allegations had been made to officials with the Clarke County School System concerning Rutherford's relationship with her students.

An investigation was conducted last April and following an interview with Rutherford at the family's home in Thomasville, Deputy Ron Baggett, who also serves as a forensic interviewer with the Clarke County

Regional Children's Advocacy Center, said there was sufficient evidence to arrest her.

Rutherford was indicted on two counts of enticing a child to enter a room for immoral purposes and for solicitation of murder.
