JMS begins new school year with happy faces

Another summer has come and gone and the students at Jackson Middle School (JMS) are excited to once again meet with their friends to catch up and discuss their various summer adventures.

JMS administration and staff are equally excited to begin another school year.

"It is always exciting to see the smiles on the faces of the students and teachers when they come to start another year. This year is especially exciting due to the hard work and dedication of the JMS faculty, staff and students, JMS met all of its annual goals for the 2005-2006 school year.

"If we continue to meet the annual yearly progress goals set by the Alabama State Department of Education for the 2006-2007 school year, it will

enable us to exit 'School Improvement' status. It takes a school two years to enter 'School Improvement' status as well as two years to exit 'School Improvement'," says JMS Assistant Principal Stuart Etheredge.

JMS is also proud to add seven new members to the hard working staff. The new hires for the 2006-2007 school year are:

Eighth graders Hannah Noble, Chelsea Roberts and Courtney Martin are all smiles on the first day of school
-Cedric Thatch: Alternative School director

-Cherilyn Purnell: 7th grade math

-Connie Outlaw: 7th grade social studies (Transferred from GES)

-Gwen White: resource teacher (Transferred from JIS)

-Latoria McKenzie: 8th grade science
