Three arrested for drugs near Chatom
By Evan Carden SA Editor

Washington County Deputy Luke Singleton and Chatom Police officers Brent Guy and Anthony Phillips found a bag of crack cocaine (left) and a bag of marijuana (right) during a traffic stop near a checkpoint they had set up this past Saturday.
Three people face drug charges after being stopped by Chatom Police and Washington County deputies Saturday, Aug 5.

Officers conducted two separate roadblocks, which resulted in the arrests of a Mt. Vernon man and two Chatom residents on possession charges.

According to Washington County Deputy Luke Singleton, the first occurred on Highway 56 west of Chatom when a vehicle occupied by Lisa Mechelle Dungan, 27 and Mack C. Daniels Jr., 39, both of Chatom, stopped short of a roadblock being conducted by Dep. Singleton and Chatom Police officers Brent Guy and Anthony Phillips. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers found one bag containing crack cocaine and one bag of marijuana.

Dungan was charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance and second degree possession of marijuana. Daniels was charged with possession of a controlled substance and first degree possession of marijuana. Both were booked into the Washington County Jail on $3,000 bond each.

The third drug arrest was made by Chatom Police Officer Guy at a roadblock set up on Highway 17 south of Chatom later that night.

Jerry Lelan Davis, 28, of Mobile was arrested and charged with second degree possession of marijuana after officers smelled what they believed to be the odor of burning marijuana coming from the vehicle. Nearly 1/2-ounce of the illegal drug was found in Davis' possession. He was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail on $1,500 bond.
