MARK YOUR CALENDAR VFW 5355 meetings The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meets the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road. Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome. Sickle Cell support Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Diabetic support The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Salvation Army is open The Salvation Army Store in Jackson is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The store is located in downtown Jackson in the old antique mall. CAA making appointments The Community Action Agency is making LIHEAP appointments for assistance with electricity bills on a first come, first serve basis. For an appointment contact the Community Action Agency in Clarke County, 251-275-8498. In order to process your application, the following items are needed: Social Security number for each household member Date of birth for each household member Proof of income for the previous month for each household member (Any household member that is 21 years old with no income, should have a written statement from someone that is not in the household, verifying that this person did not work in the previous month). Monthly income cannot be in excess of the following: One person $1,196; two people $1,604; three people $2,011; four people $2,419. Add $407 per month for each additional household member thereafter to determine eligibility. Parden Family reunion Sept. 2 The Parden Family reunion will be Saturday, Sept. 2 at Bethel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Coffeeville. Benefit for Bonnie Blackwell Friends of Bonnie Blackwell, who was injured in a recent accident, are having a benefit fish fry Aug.12 from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The benefit will be conducted at the old Bob Criswell business next to B&K Seafood on Highway 43. Plates will include fish, baked beans, slaw and a drink for $7. NRA conducting dinner/auction Friends of the National Rifle Association (NRA) will be conducting a dinner and auction Saturday, Aug. 26, 6 p.m. at the Chatom Community Center. Tickets are $25 each. Registration Aug. 17 for BTAS The Ballet and Theatre Arts School, located at 253 College Street in Gilbertown, will be conducting fall 2006 registration on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 3:30-6 p.m. Performing arts classes will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 5. If unable to make this registration date call Fred Kimbrough at 251-843-5138. JHS Class of 1997 planning reunion The Jackson High School Class of 1997 is planning a 10-year reunion in 2007. Oktoberfest planned at Faulkner University Oktoberfest Extravaganza, a free event open to the public, is conducted on the Faulkner University campus in Montgomery from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., Oct. 14.
