Clarke Co. Commission given new GPS map Clarke County Commissioners were presented a copy of the completed Geographical Information System (GIS) map by Clarke County E-911 Director Becky Neugent. The detailed mapping system pinpoints residences, businesses, fire stations, police stations, fire hydrants, roads, bridges and any other pertinent information that would be needed for emergency responders, industries looking to locate in the county and other entities that would need detailed geographical data. Six county employees have completed a course on the system and will be able to keep the program updated. Engineer's report Ten more dump trucks will be purchased before the price goes up. According to County Engineer Sam Noble the price is expected to increase $7,000-$10,000 each. The department will help the city of Jackson with cleaning and grub work at the new industrial site. Noble reported that he plans to restructure a drainage system at Princess and Main streets in Whatley to eliminate a hole that poses a safety risk because of its proximity to the road. The cost for the project is estimated at $15,000-$20,000. Bids for a cutter assembly, which is mounted to a road grader, will be sought and opened May 25. Commissioners agreed to allow Noble to post a job opening for an equipment operator 2 position, to drive a dump truck. Noble reported three erosion sites he had identified in order to seek funds to repair the areas. Two are on Fools Acres Road and are estimated to cost $113,000 and $143,000 to repair. The other is on Evergreen Road and is estimated to cost $24,000 to repair. Commissioner Paul Bradford requested that Noble research the possibility of straightening out a sharp curve on Mystic Lane in Thomasville and see if there are funds available to have the work done. Other business *Wayne Lathan, who is a candidate for the House of Representatives District 65 seat, spoke to commissioners. He offered his support for them and asked for their support during the race. *Two employees at the Clarke County Sheriff's Department completed their probationary period and received a 50 cent per hour raise. They were Skylar Woods and Zenetta Pugh. *The Clarke County Democrat was awarded the bid for printing the voter's list, which will be published in all three county papers on May 18.
