VFW 5355 meetings
The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meet the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road.
Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.
Sickle Cell support
Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
Diabetic support
The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Hoven Family
Reunion planned
Plans for the Hoven Family Reunion are being made. This year's event will be conducted at H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House on June 25 at 10 a.m.
Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and soft drinks. Contact members of your family to inform them of the date, time and change in location. Families are also asked to bring pictures and information of their ancestors to share. Pictures will not be removed from individual's possession. Anyone willing to help with the plans are asked to call Carol Carlisle at 251-246-4778.

June 24
The Clarke County Mounted Sheriff's Posse is having a horse show on Saturday, June 24, 6 p.m. at the Roy Miller Arena located on Allen Road in Grove Hill.

Club to meet
The Jackson High School (JHS) Quarterback Club will be meeting Monday, June 26, 6 p.m. in the JHS library.
The club is selling ads for the football program. Contact Suzie Murphy to place an ad.
JHS Quarterback
Club plans dance
The JHS Quarterback Club is also sponsoring a street dance July 3, from 7-11 p.m. in front of the Junior Fire Station in Jackson.
There will be a live DJ. Concessions will be for sale and will include hotdogs, sausage dogs, chips, cokes and bottled water.
Admission is $4 and is open to all ages. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Bring the entire family, security will be at each entrance.
Absolutely NO alcohol, NO drugs are allowed.
Proceeds will fund the new athletic building.
Clarke County
Historical Society
meeting
The Clarke County Historical Society is planning to meet on Sunday, June 25, 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall.
Mike Prine of Deer Park in Washington County will present the program.
He was the last owner of a turpentine harvesting business in the state of Alabama. He will explain the methods of harvesting turpentine and display and demonstrate many tools used in the process.
The public is invited to attend.
Town of McIntosh
celebrating
Fourth of July
The town of McIntosh will be celebrating their 6th annual July 4th celebration.
Special musical guests, recording artists, Tammy and Jerry Sullivan, will perform at 7 p.m.
Local artists will perform at 6 p.m.
Fireworks will begin at dusk. (8 p.m.)
The McIntosh Rescue Squad will be selling refreshments.

The Jackson Academy Athletic Association will be selling ads and/or signs for the 2006-2007 sports program.

Clarke County
Museum
The Clarke County Museum is sponsoring a program called, "How to Date Your Old Photographs," Wednesday, June 28, at 12 noon in the basement meeting room of the courthouse.
The lecture will be the first in the museum's "Brown Bag Lunch" lecture series to be held throughout the summer. Attendees are invited to bring their own lunch and drink to enjoy during the lecture which will end at 1 p.m. Mrs. Robb will be available after the program for questions.
Frances Robb, an independent scholar from Huntsville, will educate participants in dating old photographs. She will give a brief history of photography and bring examples of old photographs. She will also offer fashion hints from yesteryear that help date photos. Robb will also tell how to care for photographs. Participants are encouraged to bring old photos to have dated.
Other lectures in the series include: Kathryn Tucker Windham-Tales from Clarke County, July 11 ; Maurice Gandy-How to Take Oral History, July 18; John HallWilliam Bartram and Early Alabama Flora & Fauna, to be announced; and Joey BracknerGravestone Symbolism & Art, to be announced.
The programs are free of charge and registration is not required.
The Brown Bag Lecture Series is sponsored by a grant from the Alabama Humanities Foundation.
