diabetes classes

Diabetes classes are offered at Jackson Medical Center on Tuesday nights. Please call 251246-9021 for class schedules.

VFW 5355 meetings

The VFWPost 5355 and ladies auxiliary meet the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road.

Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.

Sickle Cell support

Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Diabetic support

The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Diabetes education is also provided by the hospital free of charge. To schedule an appointment call (251) 275-3191, ext. 507.

AA/Alanon meetings

The following meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall, Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson:

The Jackson Civitan Club meets every second and fourth Tuesday evenings, 7 p.m., at the Jackson Steakhouse.

Angels have wheels

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disorders or have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they may be eligible to receive an electric wheelchair by Medicare.

Hoven Family

Reunion planned

Plans for the Hoven Family Reunion are being made. This year's event will be conducted at H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House on June 25 at 10 a.m.

Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and soft drinks. Contact members of your family to inform them of the date, time and change in location. Families are also asked to bring pictures and information of their ancestors to share. Pictures will not be removed from individual's possession. Anyone willing to help with the plans are asked to call Carol Carlisle at 251-246-4778.

WCHS Athletic Club

meeting June 13

The Washington County High School Athletic Club will be meeting in the Ag-building behind the high school on Tuesday, June 13 at 7 p.m.

The club is selling football ads for the 2006 program.

Mounted Sheriff's

Posse horse show

The Clarke County Mounted Sheriff's Posse is having a horse show on Saturday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at the Roy Miller Arena located on the Allen Road in Grove Hill. For more information call 251-246-9266.

Women's Crusade

planned June 9

The Women's Crusade for Christ Conference will be conducted on Friday, June 9, 7 p.m., Saturday, June 10 beginning at 9 a.m. until at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, located at 295 South Lake Road in Carlton.

The Rev. Georgia P. Nash, pastor, said, "We will have Spirit-filled teachers and preachers for the conference."

Speakers will include the Rev. Mishella Williams of Atlanta, Ga., the Rev. Wanda Robinson and Minister Rasaund Myles, both of Mobile, Minister Genet Horn and Minister Marie Williams, both of Whatley and Donna Holly and Harriette Douglas, both of Jackson.

The conference is an opendoor conference and everyone is invited to attend.

The final day of conference is scheduled for Sunday, June 11, 2:30 p.m. which will include Men's Day. The Rev. Edward Seabron will be preaching. He is the pastor of Springfield A.M.E. Church of Salitpa.

'Once Upon A Time'

The Washington County Public Library and the McIntosh Branch Library are conducting their 2nd Annual Claire C. Ramsey Summer Program 2006 "Once Upon A Time".

The Washington County Public Library Summer Reading Kickoff Week will be July 10-14 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. (Parent/guardian should be present the first day and should pick up children after the program ends each day at noon.)

There will be fun activities including extreme juggler, Ron Anglin, demonstrations in martial arts, crafts, storytellers, music and great new books.

Be sure to reserve your spot and T-shirt by sending in the preregistration form to the library.

The McIntosh Branch Library, located on 83 Olin Road in McIntosh, will be conducting events on Mondays, July 10 and 17; Wednesdays, July 12 and 19 and Thursdays, July 13 and 20 from 1:30 until 2:30 for ages 3 through fifth grade. (3-4 year olds must be accompanied by an adult)
