Due to Dec. 31 being this Saturday, the Clarke County Revenue Commissioner’s Office has extended the deadline for property owners to pay their taxes until Jan. 3, without penalty.
However, the courthouse will be closed Monday, Jan. 2 in observance of the New Year’s holiday. Property tax payments can be mailed to: P.O. Box 9, Grove Hill, AL, 36451.
Deer processor added to list
M&M Deer Processing, owned by Mance McKenzie, has been added to the list of deer processors in the area that donate to the Feed The Hungry Program. The business is located at 10138 Highway 69, Jackson.
Bonner staffer to visit Clarke Co.
A staff member from the office of U.S. Representative Jo Bonner, R-Alabama, will be making two stops in Clarke County on Wednes-day, Jan. 4. The purpose of these visits is to meet with constituents who may be experiencing difficulties with the federal government and who are seeking the congressman’s assistance in resolving these problems.
The representative will be available at Grove Hill Town Hall between 10-11 a.m. and at Jackson City Hall between 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
"I certainly hope anyone experiencing problems with the federal government will take the opportunity to come meet with my staff," Bonner said. "I want to do all I can to be of assistance and hope the public won’t hesitate to contact me whenever they need help." VFW 5355 meetings
The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meet the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road.

Sickle Cell support
Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
Diabetic support
The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Ciba-Geigy reunion
A planning committee has met and finalized plans for a reunion of those with 15 years of service with Ciba-Geigy. The event will take place Jan. 28, doors open at 4 p.m., dinner at 6, at the Abba Temple Shrine Auditorium on Hitt Road off Schillinger Road in Mobile.

for seniors

Senior Pageant
Since the inception in 1985, the Ms. Senior Alabama, Inc. organization has provided a venue for senior Alabama women to demonstrate successful aging through intelligence, wisdom, talent and poise. Ms. Senior Alabama, an affiliate of Ms. Senior America, Inc. has made a tremendous impact on Alabama senior women as well as numerous families and friends throughout the United States.
The Alabama-Tombigbee Area Agency on Aging invites local organizations to host a preliminary pageant featuring local talented women 60 years of age or older that best exemplify the “Age of Elegance”. Contestants must have a good moral character, talent, poise, personality, intelligence, charm and inner beauty.
Local winners will compete with other pageant winners from the 10-county Alabama-Tombigbee area. The overall winner will compete in Birmingham in March 2006 for the title of Ms. Senior Alabama. State winners will compete in the national pageant in Las Vegas, Nev. to be crowned Ms. Senior America.
The Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging is composed of Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Dallas, Marengo, Monroe, Perry, Sumter, Washington and Wilcox counties.

Medicare Prescription Program meeting
Senior citizens 65 years of age or under 65 years old on disability with Medicare benefits are invited to attend a Medicare Prescription Program on Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter in Jackson.
The meeting will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Representatives from Humana Health Plan will be present to sign up individuals.
Everyone is asked to bring a pharmacy profile; a list of all medications currently being taken from a doctor.
No appointment is needed, but it is a first come first served basis.

Property taxes must be postmarked Jan. 3
Revenue Commissioner Jay Duke has announced that due to Dec. 31 landing on Saturday, property taxes may be received at the courthouse or be postmarked by Jan. 3, 2006 without penalty or interest.
The courthouse, will however, be closed on Monday, Jan. 2 for the New Year’s holiday.
