Weigh stations announced for
‘Get Lost in Jackson’
Several weigh stations have already been designated for the ‘Get Lost In Jackson’ weight loss program that challenges the Jackson community to lose 2,006 pounds in 2006.
Weigh stations established are Pic N Sav, Health Act-ions , Jackson Family Pharmacy, the Nail Studio and all the Jackson public schools.
On Jan. 7, 2006 at 9 a.m., the kickoff for the program will be conducted.
Those who register to participate will choose a 'Weigh Station" location. The following places are registered to be weigh stations: Health Actions , Jackson High School, Jackson Intermediate School, Gillmore Elementary School and Jackson Middle School.
Any organization or business interested in becoming a certified weigh station may call Marlene Davis at 246-5761 ext. 236. At least 25 people need to be registered to "weigh in" at a station and have a person assigned to be trained to be the official "weigher". Participants must be at least 18 years of age to register.
Participants may weigh one time per week if they choose, but must weigh at least one time per month.
Monthly door prizes will be given away and those taking part in the program may register each time they "weigh in" and one time for each pound lost. Participants must go by their original "weigh in" weight and then the lowest weight recorded to calculate pounds lost.
High Acres to host ‘Night of Luminaries’
The High Acres Subdivision in Jackson will be hosting a “Night of Luminaries” Saturday, Dec. 17 beginning at 5 p.m.
Each family in High Acres will line their driveway and surrounding property with luminary candles.
The public is encouraged to drive through and enjoy the lights.

diabetes classes
Diabetes classes are offered at Jackson Medical Center on Tuesday nights. Please call 251-246-9021 for class schedules.
VFW 5355 meetings
The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meet the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road.
Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.
Sickle Cell support
Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
Diabetic support
The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
Diabetes education is also provided by the hospital free of charge. To schedule an appointment call (251) 275-3191, ext. 507.
AA/Alanon meetings
The following meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall, Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson:
AA - Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9:00 a.m.

Civitan Club

The Jackson Civitan Club meets every second and fourth Tuesday evenings, 7 p.m., at the Jackson Steakhouse.

Ciba-Geigy reunion
A planning committee has met and finalized plans for a reunion of those with 15 years of service with Ciba-Geigy. The event will take place Jan. 28, doors open at 4 p.m., dinner at 6, at the Abba Temple Shrine Auditorium on Hitt Road off Schillinger Road in Mobile.
Cost per couple is $50 or $25 for singles. Money must be received by Dec. 31. Checks should be made payable to Ciba Geigy Reunion and mailed to: Ciba Geigy Reunion, P.O. Box 95, Tibbie, AL 36583.

Club meeting
There will be a WCHS Athletic Club meeting in the AG-Building behind the high school on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.
Memberships and dues are being accepted at the monthly meetings.
High Acres

St. Paul’s Christmas program Sunday
St. Paul’s Schola Cantorum (an auditioned chamber choir) will present a festival of Christmas Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 18, 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 4051 Old Shell Road in Mobile.
Music will include well-known carols of the season as well as anthems by Archer, Busch, Davis, Hassler, Ireland, Ives, Ord and Thompson.
The program is free and open to the public.

Prescriptions help
for seniors

Jackson Women’s League hosting dance
The Jackson Women’s League will be hosting a New Year’s Eve dance on Saturday, Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House in Jackson.
There will be live music by the “Sundance Band.”
Cost of the tickets is $25 for singles and $40 per couple.
