Ala-Tom Area Agency on Aging seeks participants
The Alabama-Tombigbee Area Agency on Aging is seeking volunteers interested in participating in our Leadership Institute Program. This program will provide training and instruction for senior volunteers on Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias, family caregiving and advocacy.
During their internship, they will be involved in activities, which include advocacy for victims of Alzheimer’s disease and dementias, development of Caring Teams and other activities related to advocacy for senior citizens.
Participants will receive reimbursement for travel expenses to and from the training sessions and meals will be provided.

Jackson and Chatom parades are this weekend
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Christmas parade this Friday at 5 p.m. The theme is "Count Your Blessings".
Line-up for the parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Mayton Drive and extend on the drive around Joe M. Gillmore Elementary and Jackson Intermediate School. Floats will be allowed to enter Mayton Drive from College Avenue. Allow enough time to get to the school by 3:30 p.m. If children are riding on floats or performing in the parade, parents should enter Mayton Drive from Highway 43 to drop them off.
Chatom
Chatom’s Christmas Pa-rade will be Saturday at 10 a.m.
This year’s theme is “Scenes of Christmas.” Lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. behind Washington County High School.

VFW 5355 meetings
The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meet the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road.
Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.
Sickle Cell support
Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
Diabetic support
The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

The Emerald Coast Bead Society is hosting their annual Christmas show on Dec. 3. from 9 a.m until 5 p.m. at the Scottish Rite in Pensacola, Fla. The theme is “Holidays in Paradise.”

The Coffeeville RSVP will conduct a holiday luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 3, 11 a.m. at the Nutrition Center.

Santa Claus is
coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town on Dec. 3 at the Chatom Community Center from 7-9 a.m. Breakfast and a photo opportunity will be available to all children in the area at that time.
Admission is $15 for one child and one adult and $5 for each additional child. There will be arts and crafts activities and games while children wait for a picture to be taken with Santa. Attorneys to speak at Nutrition Center
Kyla Kelim, an attorney-at-law with Davis and Neal will be speaking at the Jackson Nutrition Center on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m.
Topic of discussion will be the Medicare Drug Plan. She will be available to answer questions concerning the plan as well as assist in other services.

Alabama Democratic Conference
There will be a special called meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. of the Clarke County Chapter of the Alabama Democratic Conference.
The regular meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.
The meeting will be conducted at the Clarke County Branch of the NAACP Building at 261 Carter Dr. in Grove Hill.

CHS 1955 football team reunion
The members of the Coffeeville High School (CHS) Class 1A Championship football team of 1955, along with their coach and cheerleaders will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Sunday, Dec.4. The event will be held at CHS from 1:30-4 p.m.
In attendance will be the former team captains, Ronnie James and Johnny Ray Motes along with former all-state selections, Eddie Andress and R.L. Guy. The team coach, James Kornegay, will be the keynote speaker.

Ciba-Geigy reunion
A planning committee has met and finalized plans for a reunion of those with 15 years of service with Ciba-Geigy. The event will take place Jan. 28, doors open at 4 p.m., dinner at 6, at the Abba Temple Shrine Auditorium on Hitt Road off Schillinger Road in Mobile.

Annual Sweet Dreams at library
The White Smith Memorial Library will be conducting their annual “Sweet Dreams” evening Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.
Children are encouraged to arrive in pajamas and with their blankets. The evening will be complete with guest readers, a puppet show and the singing of Christmas carols.
All children attending are requested to bring a new unwrapped toy to support the Jackson Police Department’s Operation Christmas.
