Frierson - Monk exchange wedding vows April 9 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mobile
Mrs. John Richard Frierson
Elizabeth Monk of Dothan and John Richard Frierson of Mobile were united in marriage on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mobile.
The Rev. John H. Riggin officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Layle Monk of Athens and the granddaughter of Mrs. Fred Alton Jeffcoat, the late Mr. Jeffcoat, Mrs. Bobby Ray Monk and the late B.R. Monk.
The groom is the son of Sarah Stewart Frierson of Mobile and the late Richard Scott Frierson. He is the grandson of Mrs. John Perry Johnson of Jackson, the late John Calvin Stewart, Horace Frierson, and the late Mrs. Frierson.
Leslie Ann Kilpatrick of Andalusia presented the programs.
Arrangements of white lilies, roses, snapdragons and peonies were hung from the carriage lights at the entrance of the church and flanked the altar and were in the narthex.
Given in marriage by her father, Robert Layle Monk, the bride wore a strapless silk gown with a bodice accented with crystals and pearls. Matching crystals and pearls lined the hem and cathedral length train. The bride carried a bouquet of gardenias, white roses and stephanotis.
The bride entered the church to Mendelssohn’s Sonata No. 3.
Soloist, Richard True of New York City, N.Y. sang the “Lord’s Prayer” and “The Gift of Love,” and Kevin Davis was the organist.
The mothers were seated to Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”. Bridal attendants entered to Pachelbel’s “Canon in D”. The recessional was Handel’s “Hornpipe”.
Emily Archibald was the maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Summer Greene, Marlene Lay and Aubrey Ueltschey.
They wore tea length, strapless georgette dresses in marine blue.
Serving as flower girl was Bailey Wilson.
The groom was attended by Daniel Rakovec, who served as best man.
Groomsmen were Wesley True, Russ Hill and George Nelson. Ushers were Jeremy Floyd and Brian Ellis.
Reception
A reception was held at the Stewartfield on the campus of Springhill College in Mobile.
The home was decorated throughout. Smilax and spring flowers covered the transom window above the main entry and again on the doorway leading to the ballroom. Mantles and tables were decorated with arrangements of roses, snapdragons, iris and lilies.
The groom’s cake was a traditional chocolate cake toped with fondant bow, chocolate covered strawberries and the groom’s monogram. The room also had an ice cream bar and fresh fruit.
In the dining room, guests were served a variety of tea sandwiches, shrimp, crab mousse, asparagus in vinaigrette, chicken fingers, pork tenders and other delicacies.
The four-tiered wedding cake was in the main ballroom flanked by candelabra. The candelabra held floral arrangements consisting of white roses, lilies and peonies. Roses, stephonatis and ivy intertwined in a fondant bow were placed on the top of the cake.
Music was provided by Robert Sulley.
After a honeymoon trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the couple will reside in Mobile.
Wedding Day Brunch
The couple and their out-of-town guests were entertained at the home of Sally and David Carrington on Dog River.
Other hosts included Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Greene, Dr. and Mrs. Archie Davis, Dr. and Mrs. Day Gates, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Hybart, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Clay and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cunningham.
The house and patios were decorated with flowers from the hostess’ home. Guests dined poolside and enjoyed egg casserole, fresh fruit, sweet rolls and breakfast meats. Mimosa and Azalea punches were also served.
Bridesmaids’ Luncheon
The bride-elect’s aunt, Evone Kilpatrick of Andalusia and grandmother, Mattie Lula Jeffcoat of Luverne, entertained Miss Monk and her attendants at a luncheon on April 8 at the Fairhope Inn.
Also in attendance were the bride-elect’s mother, Linda Monk of Athens, the groom-elect’s mother, Sarah Ann Frierson, and grandmother, Sarah Johnson of Jackson.
She presented gifts to her attendants.
After Rehearsal Dinner
Following the wedding rehearsal, the groom-elect’s mother, Sarah Ann Frierson, entertained the wedding party and out-of-town guests on the fantail of the USS Alabama.
Tables were decorated with potted perennials and floating candles.
Guests were served marinated shrimp and gumbo aboard the ship. Later they dined on grouper, chicken fingers, cheese grits and other foods.
At the conclusion of the dinner, the guests were entertained with a fireworks show.
Among the special guests attending were the bride-elect’s parents, grandmother, aunts and uncles. Also attending were the groom’s grandmother, Sarah Johnson of Jackson, his aunts, Mary Jane Nelson of Birmingham, Diana Steckel of Chambersburg, Penn. and godfather, Winston Lett of Miami, Fla.
Cocktail Party
The bridal couple was honored on April 7 with a cocktail supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rick True.
A number of the couple’s friends were in attendance along with the couple’s parents.
