VFW 5355 meetings

The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary will meet the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road.

Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.

Diabetic Support

The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Diabetes education is also provided by the hospital free of charge. To schedule an appointment call (251) 275-3191, ext. 507.

Red Cross volunteers sought

The Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking individuals who are interested in becoming volunteers.

The American Red Cross offers many opportunities for anyone interested in military case work, disaster relief, blood services and so much more.

Jackson Medical Center offers diabetes classes

Diabetes classes are offered at Jackson Medical Center on Tuesday nights. Please call 251-246-9021 for class schedules.

Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Enrollment open for Citizens’ Police Academy

Get a personal, hands-on demonstration of how a police officer handles different situations by enrolling in the Jackson Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy. The department is in the process of accepting applications for their fourth session with the first class scheduled for Sept. 1 at Alabama Southern Community College in Jackson. Classes will be from 6-9 p.m., one night per week for 10 weeks.

Citizens who live or work in Clarke or Washington counties are eligible to attend. Participants must be at least 19 years old with no felony or serious misdemeanor arrests, i.e. domestic violence, attempted burglary, etc. Partici-pants must be able to attend 70 percent of the classes to graduate.
